Not for first 3 hours... It was snotty and lumpy as hell... No tide, and bouncing around all over the place.. Once the tide turned and wind dropped it was ok, but far from "Nice". ![]() |

Not good then, I had a little run down the western end (not fishing) and it looked ok there, that was just after lunch though so must have missed the worst of it. |

After lunch it was fine.
On the way back in it was gorgeous.. (But it was about 9 hours to late then) First thing it was lumpy, bitterly cold, No tide. On the boat I was on we all agreed we should have ignored the 8am start and headed out at 11... :-)

We didn.t enter the comp which was just as well was going to head out to foul grounds but gave up as to lumpy and headed in to sandown bay which was reasonably ok.
What we were treated to was a pod of dolphins around the boat so that made our day other wise all we had was a couple of conger, small whiting and a few pout. Afternoon the weather was great and the fishing went dead.

Because it was late in the season and there were 11 prizes, they decided that if there weren't 11 cod caught (as if) then whiting would be entered. Strangely, the whiting that won third prize was heavier than the cod that won second prize. A bit of quick work with a Sharpie pen could have turned that whiting into a cod worth a lot more. Luckily all the entrants were honest.

I heard a funny story about missing sandwiches. That might make it to the Sea Angling News article ;) |
