ditto, mines all done ready to go graham. depending on where im fishing i keep it simple simple running ledger 4/5ft in length with a colourful muppet about 10 inches above the top hook of a pennel for added attraction.

i use minimum 50lb flouro or if im fishing deep where conger our in numbers i regulary go upto 80/100lb trace breaking strain. also the bigger cod have sharpish teeth and will make light work of 20/30lb trace line unless you hook them in the mouth which dont happen often with bait as they tend to take the bait right down like there life depended on it.

whiting i use a 3 hook muppet rig (snowys tip) green in colour tipped with squid or mackie, works everytime.

I always use 80lb hook length for Cod with 8/0 hooks and either a pennel or a kind of short wishbone with one hook dangling below the other

Running ledger  with a pennel hook set up tied to 50 to 100lb line. Hook size between 6/0 and 12/0 depending on the size of fish showing.

Having said that we hook as many on the whiting rigs baited with strips of bluey. Unfortunately you dont land the biggies.

Blueys are a slang/common term for the Pacific Saury.  They have dark blue backs and silvery flanks, dotted with random blue blotches.

Blueys have a reputation for being far oilier than fish baits such as mackerel and herring.

I've found them excellent for Rays and general fishing, but wouldn't like to state they are any better than traditional - especially fresh, as fresh mackerel will usually outfish it, however I have had some very nice Blondes on them (the ray that it).

personally i would keep trace line over 80lb, ive had cod bite through 60lb line, i know because the skipper later caught the 20lb cod with my hook and bait in its mouth!!

i'd use 150lb line, 6/0 to 8/0 hooks on a pennel, running leger with 4ft trace length.

nice an simple.....
