have had a few straps of the pier to about 20lb and a 7lb sea trout or salmon not sure what it was, have gathered loads of leads of the end on the super tides no holes just a tube thing sunk in the mud, even got around to the ladder on the other side once,
one of my mates hooked a big fish there once he swore it was a cod and he had it on the surface and it stripped him of twice and he tried to walk it back up the pier in the lee but in the end his legs were like jelly and he could not hold the fish any longer so he had to cut the line, poor old sod we ripped him something cronic for ages about it, we always said it was a big eel but he would have non of it, he was a top angler and a good mate, Ron Lane R.I.P.

Yea the spot of the end of the pier you can find all sorts of things old clay pipes etc. ive been on that little island about a doz times but you dont get long on it befire the tide turns
ive prob picked up 50 maybe 60 leads from there in 1 hit. kept me in leads for a short time, but loads of beads bait clips boons etc etc
that fish your mate hooked into sounds like the resident conger there.i hooked into it many years ago with a silstar beachcaster 3 peace and a abu conolon fixed spool. the rod folded and the line just kept on going from the reel couldnt do anything and i ended up being spooled.
when the fish went it went like a rocket picked the bait and headed down tide with the tide i had no bloody chance of landing it,if i did then it would of been a new bcfsa record.
