For boat fishing in and around the Solent - throughout the year.

Assuming you could only buy 3 set-ups what would be your ideal rod & reel (and line) combos?

Depends on your budget and why three? two would do the trick.

No budget ristrictions, just post your ideal.

I thought that three combos was a better balance.

However, all I'm asking for is some guidance from experienced locals

Personally I favour a 12lb class Abu Suveran with a Shimano Tyrnos 8 or Avet SX for downtide work and a Shakespeare Uglystik 250 Uptider with an Abu 7500i CT (Chrome) for uptide work. Both will handle any Solent situation whether at anchor or on the drift.

hi mick, i normally use a 12lb ugly stik braid matched with a calcutta 400 or diawa slosh 30 also use a 20/30lb penn powerstix pro braid also with a slosh 30 or 40 , have a pair of 8ft  6/12lb class spinning rods with a pair of abu 6000 tournaments, also do like wreck and reefing with shads and jellies so use an ugly stik 12lb class, and a couple of 30lb rods with slosh 50 and a abu big game 10,000 if going for something big, and then 15 more rods and 10 reels just in case of guests, cant mention too much incase the misses reads the post LOL
if you have to measure it, its too small!!

Hi Mick,  I have a pair of Abu Suveran Pro Combos (uptide or 12/20lb) which handle down tide and uptide.  Have Shimano TLD Star 20/40 and a SLOSH 30.   Also, have an Ugly Stik Lite 8' spinning rod and fixed spool which is great spinning (funnily enough) for bass, mackerel etc.

shimano antares 12/20lb class and a accurate boss extreme bx500n for light to mid range.
shimano antares 20/30lb class and a accurate boss extreme bx600n for heavier work.

we can all dream lol. not a bad couple of combos. £700 each better remortgage the house.
