Hi,
This doesn't really fall into any category but I must ask... How common is it for plaice to be found in Canoe Lake in Southsea? Whilst walking the dog around the other day and checking out the crabs that the kids were catching I noticed a plaice swimming along the bottom of the lake. It looked to me as though it was a good 16-18 inches long, bigger than i've ever seen anyone pull in on the beach. Unfortunately I was the only person to spot it before it shot off into the middle. I just wondered if this happened regularly because I remember seeing the white underside of a dead flatfish in the lake many years ago after pestering my dad to take me on the pedalos.
Thanks
That was definitely a bite...

Blimme, did not know there was anything in there except crabs!

Is it to shallow for my boat, if not it will make a nice sheltered inshore venue!

Probably kids catching one of the beach and for a laugh putting it in canoe lake. Over time will get big with the amount of crap in there to eat.

From Wikipedia. Canoe Lake is the last remnant of an area of marsh and open water known as the Great Morass, drained in 1886, on which much of Southsea now sits. The lake is topped up from the sea by opening a sluice at high tide. Crabs and fish find their way in, and attract children fishing equipped with a piece of bacon on a string.

So it is quite likely it swam in.

I've also seen several sizeable bass in the canal at Gunwharf, the canal with children's boats in.

I've seen the bass in the evening.

And no, not after ten pints of beer!
