Thanks for the info Neville, i'll keep trying different spots on it. Should have types Eastern side not Western.

Rays are on my target list this year along with tope. Going to give Pullar a go for the tope when weather and tide are favourable.

So many different spots this end, sometimes its a job to know where to go. New Grounds is an itch i've wanted to scratch. Medmerry next on the list.

Go armed for tope in the gulley between Medmery and Selsey. I kept being bitten off there then scaled up the trace and then caught tope to 30lb. Also cod in the winter. It is a bit patchy, you can blank there as often as catch so if there is no  action, be prepared to move.

Went out yesterday and fished in Christchurch bay as west Solent too weedy. Very disappointing to find weed problem nearly as bad. Caught thornback, spotted ray and bream. Gave up at 1600 hr. is there anywhere that is weed free?

It seems very difficult atm to get results any suggestions to get a satisfying trip out there
Mackerel a couple of keepers and a bend in our rods that are sizeable fish would be good
Can’t be the only person feeling a bit disappointed with the state of play at least when bass was on the menu the hunt was on locally anyway
Out this week but at a bit of a loss what to do had my boat 3 or so years now and just struggling to justify it costs versus results
I love my fishing but finding myself extremely disappointed these days
Best days fishing this year was a smoothie trip western Solent 8 fish up to best fish a fine 9 pounder
How’s your best trip so far?
Be good to hear some successes too 👍

If you want hounds - get some velvet crabs k/a "flyers". use live or frozen ones. Dead ones that not been frozen live are no good.
Speak to a local crabber. personally I use frozen cut in half (collected Jan - mar)
Harbour crabs are second best. Sometimes squid does well. rag gets the small ones in the main.

Fish up to base or down banks or Hard Grounds just SE of Nab.

My best tally is 33 hounds between 2 of us until ran out of bait & my charters have been averaging over 30 a trip. Find harbour crabs work best once the velvets have got the hounds feeding.

So far tope fishing has been disappointing - targeting next week on charters.

Thanks whitewash hounds are good fun, I must admit I miss the Bass fishing and yet to find turbot.
Caught some nice Dover sole this time last year at hill head cliffs
Overall I guess it needs more time put in and the more fish you will find.
So cheers for the advice on smooth hounds never had much luck on any sizeable Tope but love to catch some are there any mackerel about yet I imagine the Tope will follow them about ?

3 days of fishing Wed - Friday incl. No tope- not even one run. On Friday one of the boats nearby had one of 40lb. Lots of hounds and some decent rays.
Mackerel were everywhere so ne excuses about not having fresh macks!
